AGENCIES, Washington: For the past few days, the coronavirus media briefings by US President Donald Trump are becoming a sore point and source of embarrassment for the White House.
There have been active discussions within the White House about changing the format of the briefings to curtail the president’s role, according to four White House officials and Republicans close to the matter.
On Friday, Trump cut off his daily coronavirus task force media briefing without taking questions from the floor.
A day earlier, Trump shared an idea of injecting disinfectants into infected people to fight the coronavirus. That idea was sharply criticised by health experts and industry who said the idea was dangerous and a no-no. The said briefing also attracted sharp criticism from the opponent Democrats.
The US has been the worst hit by coronavirus alone accounts the highest number so far — more than 9.2 lakh Americans have tested positive for Covid-19 and the fatalities count on Friday stood at 51,000, according to the Johns Hopkins University tracking data.
