BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: Volkswagen India skipped the formal launch of its T-Roc entry-level SUV for India due to fears of coronavirus. Instead, the car was officially launched on-line. Now the details have emerged and here’s what to expect:
First, the T-Roc will be offered as a single, fully-loaded variant with an introductory price of Rs 19.9 lakhs. According to Volkswagen India, the T-Roc has already secured more than 300 bookings. After the the introductory price period is over, the prices will be revised. The T-Roc will not be made in India, it will be imported via the completely built up (CBU) route.
The T-Roc was first unveiled in India in February at Auto Expo 2020. Its design inspiration is based on a coupe profile so instead of appearing upright and boxy, it has progressive design language with balance proportions and distinguishing features like a sloping roofline.
In the line-up, the T-Roc is positioned in the segment beneath the Tiguan and is built on the modular transverse matrix (MQB) which has allowed engineers and designers to be flexible, yet assertive.
Similar to the Tiguan, the T-Roc gets integrated LED headlamps and LED daytime running lights. The dual tone colour scheme smartens the car’s youthful appearance
The cabin gets an all-digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control system, an 8.0-inch infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof and Vienna leather seats.
The T-Roc will be powered by a BS VI-compliant, forced-fed 148hp/250Nm 1.5-litre TSI four-cylinder petrol ACT EVO family engine paired to a 7-speed automatic DSG transmission. The lightweight aluminium intensive engine comes with advanced valve timing system, thermal management, and ACT (cylinder deactivation) as well as friction reduction to help increase efficiency parameters. The same engine is used in several other models including the Golf.
Given the level of competition in the segment with newcomers like Kia Seltos, MG Hector and soon-to-arrive Hyundai Creta, it is expected that the German brand will equip the T-Roc with extensive personalisation options, advanced vehicle assistance systems, innovative digital features and connectivity besides the usual suit of active and passive safety features.
