BH CORRESPONDENT, Mumbai: At a time when India is fighting coronavirus pandemic, another worry comes calling. There’s a steep rise in number of domestic violence amid lockdown and the National Commission for Women (NCW) has said that women’s helplines have reported extremes rises in distress calls.
Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma, Madhuri Dixit Nene, Farhan Akhtar and other celebrities have come together to share an important message on domestic violence. In the video, the celebs expressed concern over the increase in domestic violence cases amid the nationwide lockdown enforced to fight the spread of coronavirus.
In the one-minute video clip titled ‘Lockdown On Domestic Violence’, prominent faces including cricketers like Kohli, Mithali Raj, actors Madhuri, Dia Mirza, Rahul Bose, Vidya Balan and others, urged people to take a firm stand against domestic violence.
“During the lockdown there has been a sharp increase in the number of domestic violence cases. To all the men we say, now is the time to standup against this violence. To all the women we say, now is the time to stand up and break the silence,” they said in the video.
“If you’re a witness to domestic violence in your home, please report. If you’re a witness to domestic violence in your neighborhood, please report. If you’re a survivor of domestic violence, please report it. Let’s put a lockdown on domestic violence,” the stars said in the video.
On other hand, Bollywood and Marathi actor Shreya Talpade also shared a video in Marathi language to increase awareness about domestic violence amid lockdown. This video also has been recorded in the same format where celebrities including Madhuri, Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma and others urged people not indulge into domestic violence.
“Pandemic or no pandemic or lockdown or no lockdown…domestic violence is something no one should ever face! In such times when we are fighting a global pandemic, if u know anyone dealing with domestic violence or if you are the one facing it, we would urge u to take help,” the caption read.
