BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: Veteran Bengali actor Arun Guhathakurta died after battle with coronavirus complications at MR Bangur hospital on Tuesday in Kolkata at 1.45 pm. Though he has acted in several films such as Basu Paribaar, Laptop, Chhotoder Chhobi, Bisarjan, and Apur Panchali, he is mostly remembered for his character Hari in Kaushik Ganguly’s film Cinemawala. In fact, he was a regular in Ganguly’s films.
Actress Sudiptaa Chakraborty takes to Facebook to express her condolences over his demise. Remembering him as a “very senior technician, an extremely dedicated Assistant Director, an absolutely stunning actor,” she wrote how Sudiptaa first met the veteran actor during the pre- production of Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Mondo Meyer Upakhyan in 2000. And then she called him a ‘silent warrior.”
“Actually the likes of Arun da are of a rare species. You won’t realise that they are around when the work is in progress. But you’ll surely feel their absence if they aren’t around, when the work is on. They are the absolute silent warriors. May your absolutely pure soul rest in peace Arun da,” posted Sudiptaa, who worked with Guha Thakurta in Suman Ghosh’s Basu Paribaar.
Actor Parambrata has worked with the senior actor on the set of Cinemawala and Apur Panchali — both Kaushik Ganguly films. “Really sad at the demise of veteran actor and director Arun Guhathakurta… has spent some quality time with him in the sets of #cinemawallah & #Apurpanchali he will be etched in our memory forever through his work,” Parambrata tweeted.
Srijit Mukherji loved his work in Bisarjan, where he played the character of Doctor Chacha, Cinemawala and Chhotoder Chhobi. And then the filmmaker said that he would dedicate Chinnomostar Obhishaap in his upcoming Feluda series, Feluda Pherot where Guha Thakurta plays an important role in the story to the veteran actor.
Today we lost one of the finest actors we had in Arun Guha Thakurta to Covid19. Will remember him for his brilliant turns in Cinemawallah, Bishorjon & Chotoder Chobi. Will be dedicating possibly his last work, Chinnomostar Obhishaap in the Feluda Pherot series, to his memory.
