BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: Srijit Mukherji’s directorial Uma, which turned two on June 1, was inspired by a real-life story. It was a story of hope, unity and miracle. And at a time when the world is struggling with COVID-19 pandemic, aren’t we all hoping for a miracle to happen? Miracle that the moment we wake up in the morning, we read the WhatsApp message that finally the vaccine for coronavirus has been discovered and has become accessible to everyone.
So, on Thursday, Srijit and team Uma have come up with the unlock version of Jaago Uma. Yes, like you all, we, too, love the song. Of course, the unlock version of the video has the actors, musicians who were part of the 2018 film, and it, too, talks about hope and unity amid the COVID-19 pandemic and in the new normal.
The video starts with Jisshu Sengupta who is joined by his daughter Sara on the terrace of their house. Jisshu played a doting father, Himadri Sen to Uma (Sara) in the film, too. Next, we see a smiling Anirban Bhattacharya lip-syncing to the song, followed by music composer Anupam Roy, Rudranil Ghosh, Srijit, Anjan Dutt and Gargi Roy Chowdhury. And then the camera shows the beautiful city of Kolkata where the cars have started moving and life is slowing coming back to pace.
After almost three months of lockdown, the unlock 1 phase has started. The city has woken up after the lockdown and it is taking time to adjust to the ‘new normal’. Though West Bengal government has announced that lockdown in the containment zones will remain till July 31, but the people of Bengal are always hopeful and optimistic. Here, we should remember that in the film, Uma, Kolkata was a character. In fact, in the climax, the film spoke about the unity of the people of the city. So, in the video, too, we will see the urge and optimism of the Kolkatans. We want to return to the theatres, compose music again, go back to the familiar adda zones and finally want to welcome Maa Durga again like every year… because, Durga Puja is just a few months away.
