BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: Two more persons fell victim to the deadly coronavirus in the last 24 hours taking Bengal’s tally of deaths due to COVID-19 to 12.
Briefing reporters, chief secretary Rajiva Sinha that two more people died from coronavirus infection in the state. A total of 178 persons are admitted to different hospitals with coronavirus infection, he said.
Sinha also mentioned that in Howrah district alone 580 persons have been tested for coronavirus and among them 62 persons were positive. In Midnapore, 18 persons tested coronavirus positive among 300 persons.
Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday afternoon called up Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and inquired about the present situation in the state.
CPI(M) supporters led by senior leaders like Biman Bose, Suryakanta Mishra, Sujan Chakraborty and Mohammed Salim staged a demonstration at Red Road on Saturday afternoon in protest against the black marketing of food grains that is supposed to be distributed among the poor through the public distribution system. They also demanded more coronavirus tests and asked the government to release the actual data about the infected and deaths.
