BH CORRESPONDENT, Lucknow: The Yogi Adityanath-led government in Uttar Pradesh has ordered complete shutdown of 15 districts to check the spread of coronavirus. The order will come into effect from midnight tonight and will continue till April 13.
The 15 districts identified are Lucknow, Agra, Ghaziabad, Gautambudh Nagar (Noida), Kanpur, Varanasi, Shamli, Meerut, Bareilly, Bulandshahar, Firozabad, Maharajganj, Sitapur, Saharanpur and Basti.
Coronavirus cases have been reported from 37 districts of Uttar Pradesh with the number climbing to 326 on Wednesday. Of the total cases, 166 are linked to the Tablighi Jamaat. So far, the UP health department authorities have identified 1,600 people associated with the Jamaat and as per protocol, 1,200 of them have been quarantined.
Uttar Pradesh has so far reported four coronavirus deaths. The first death had taken place in Gorakhpur on March 30 where a youth from Basti died at the BRD Medical College and his corona +tive report came after his death. On April 1, a 72-year-old man died in Meerut due to the virus and his entire family of 16 people had been quarantined. Two days later, on April 3, a 55-year-old trader died in Varanasi and his coronavirus positive report had came after his death. On Wednesday, a 76-year-old woman undergoing treatment in S N Medical College in Agra died. She had apparently picked up the infection from her grandson who had returned from abroad recently.
During the lockdown, UP authorities said that all essential services will be home delivered and no one will be allowed to move out.
