BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: In a series of tweets of Thursday, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had threatened to launch a country-wide agitation if the anti-farm laws were not withdrawn. On Friday, Trinamool Congress and Mamata had called for a three-day sit-in demonstration from December 8-10 at Gandhi Statue in Kolkata. On December 10, Mamata would join the protest against the farm bills.
Meanwhile, on Friday Mamata tweeted that 14 years ago on December 4, she had started her 26-day hunger strike in Kolkata demanding that agricultural land cannot be forcefully acquired. Today, she stands in solidarity with the farmers. “14 years ago on 4 Dec 2006, I began my 26 day hunger strike in Kolkata demanding that agricultural land cannot be forcefully acquired. I express my solidarity with all farmers who are protesting against draconian farm bills passed without consultation by Centre #StandWithFarmers,” tweeted the chief minister.

Meanwhile, BJP chief JP Nadda is likely to visit Bengal on December 8. According to sources, an internal meeting will be held in Diamond Harbour with the party members chaired by him.
In a series of tweets on Thursday, Mamata lashed out at the BJP-led Central government and protested against the anti-farm laws.
“I am very much concerned about the farmers, their lives and livelihood. GOI must withdraw the anti-farmer bills. If they do not do so immediately, we will agitate throughout the state and the country. From the very start, we have been strongly opposing these anti-farmer bills,” she tweeted.
“The GOI is selling everything. You cannot sell Railways, Air India, Coal, BSNL, BHEL, banks, defence, etc. Withdraw ill-conceived disinvestment & privatisation policy. We must not allow treasures of our nation to be transformed into BJP party’s personal assets,” she said in another tweet.
