ANINDITA ACHARYA, Kolkata: Director Arjunn Dutta’s debut Bengali feature film Abyakto is running at the theatres in Kolkata and tells the poignant tale of a mother and son. His second film, Guldasta, revolving around the lives of three women is ready. And now, Arjunn is all set to go on floors with his third Bengali film, Shrimati, too. Now, that only proves the ever-increasing popularity of this young maker.
Interestingly, in all the three Bengali films women have played key roles. As the name suggests in the third film also Arjunn has rested it on the able shoulder of a woman protagonist. And this time it is none other than the talented and beautiful Swastika Mukherjee. Here’s a catch. Swastika also plays a key character in Guldasta. So, we understand both the actor-director has developed a close bond. Hope we see them working more in the future.
Now, let’s get back to the cast of Shrimati. Arjunn has roped in none other than Soham Chakraborty to star alongside Swastika in Shrimati. That’s surely an interesting casting given they haven’t appeared on the big screen before.
As far as the story goes, Shrimati is a story of a bit disorganised housewife Sri (Swastika) madly in love with her husband Anindya (Soham). Unfortunately, Sri falls prey to society’s glitz and glamour and in the bargain loses her own identity.
“Today, we seem to be in a box all the time. This film is about self-appreciation and loving yourself,” said Arjunn Dutta.
In fact, Shrimati was supposed to be Arjunn’s debut Bengali film, but then Abyakto happened. However, he is happy to be working with a big and great cast in Shrimati.
This family film also stars Barkha Bisht Sengupta, Trina Saha, Kheya Chattopadhyay, Debjani Bose, Sudarshan Chakravorty and Uday Pratap Singh. Sudarshan will be seen as a dance teacher in the film.
Produced by Kan Singh Sodha, Shrimati will be extensively shot in Kolkata.
