BH CORRESPONDENT, Mumbai: The last film, Dil Bechara, of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput is all set to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar July 24. But the makers have made the film available for free to both subscribers and non-subscribers to the OTT platform as their tribute to Sushant, who died by suicide on June 14, 2o20.
The film is directed by Sushant’s close friend Mukesh Chhabra and produced by Fox Star Studios.
“Sushant was not just the hero of my debut film as a director, but he was a dear friend who stood by me through thick and thin. We had been close right from Kai Po Che to Dil Bechara. He had promised me that he would be in my first film. So many plans were made together, so many dreams were dreamt together but never once did I ever imagine that I would be left alone to release this film. He always showered immense love on me while I was making it and his love will guide us
as we release it,” said Mukesh Chhabra.
Dil Bechara is the official remake of 2014 Hollywood romantic drama The Fault in our Stars based on John Green’s popular novel of the same name. Chhabra makes his directorial debut with this movie, with Hindi adaptation by Shashank Khaitan and Suprotim Sengupta.
Dil Bechara will see late Sushant in a leading role alongside debutante Sanjana Sanghi. It also stars Saif Ali Khan in an interesting cameo along with Swastika Mukherjee and Saswata Chatterjee. The music has been composed by AR Rahman.
Uday Shankar, president – The Walt Disney Company APAC and chairman, Star & Disney India, said, “We are humbled to be able to play a small part in sustaining the legacy of a fine actor like Sushant Singh Rajput. In celebration of his life and his extraordinary work, Dil Bechara will release directly on digital this July on Disney+ Hotstar; and will be available to all subscribers and non-subscribers across India. Our prayers and wishes to his family and loved ones.”
Sanjana took to her Instagram to share the news. After Sushant’s death, Sanjana shared a video on Instagram where she is seen in tears while speaking about her first Bollywood co-actor. Swastika, who acted with Sushant in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy, also shared the poster and announcement details on her social media. A few days back, Swastika condemned the way the media handled Sushant’s death coverage. “I am never going to recover from this disgust. Never. Ever. Ever. The disgust that the media, social media and agenda peddlers collectively have thrown at us. Why write fake RIPs? We didn’t even allow the man to do that,” Swastika posted.

After the sudden demise of Sushant, the fans demanded that Dil Bechara be released on the big screen, given it’s the last completed work of the late actor.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the final postmortem report of Sushant said that the cause of death has been due to hanging. The Mumbai police is still waiting for the viscera report and have written to Directorate of Forensic Science Services over the same. The final postmortem report has been signed by five doctors after detailed analysis.
Now, his fans demand CBI investigation into the matter. The 34-year-old actor, who started his big Bollywood dream in 2013 with Kai Po Che!, was found dead at his residence on June 14. He was found hanging at his Mumbai home by domestic help, who alerted the police. A brilliant engineering student who had a fascination for space, Sushant in his 2019 film Chhichhore had spoken against suicide. The news of Sushant’s demise comes just days after his former manager Disha Salian’s death. In his last Instagram post, he dedicated a poem to his late mother where he talked about “fleeting life”.
