BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: Even a day before his grand wedding reception in Kolkata with Bangladesh’s Rafiath Rashid Mithila on February 29, National Award-winning director Srijit Mukherji was doing what he does the best — planning his next film, Kakababur Protyaborton. The Bengali film was shot in the jungles of Africa and Srijit’s reception punjabi by Sharbari Dutta had the print of wilderness. He left for Africa with Kakababur Protyaborton team the next day, just few days before coronavirus lockdown was announced in India. At that time, SVF wanted to release the much-awaited Bengali film during Durga Puja 2020. And don’t we know the box-office record Srijit has with his puja releases? But COVID-19 disrupted all plans and the theatres were closed down for seven months due to nationwide lockdown.
When the theatres re-opened during puja, SVF released Debaloy Bhattacharya’s Dracula Sir starring Anirban Bhattacharya and Mimi Chakraborty. Despite 50 per cent seating capacity, the audience gave a thumbs up to the film. During that time Srijit had tweeted how he missed releasing his film during puja, but also promised to the audiences that it will be worth waiting for Kakababur Protyaborton. The wait is over.
On Thursday, SVF shared the first poster of Kakababur Protyaborton and also announced that the film will hit the theatres during Christmas. Now, that will surely make the audiences happy. Alongside, the news will also give relief to multiplexes and single screen theatre owners in Bengal, who have been waiting for the release of a ‘big film’ to set their cash registers ringing. Given the box office track record of both the earlier Kakababu films — Mishawr Rawhoshyo and Yeti Obhijaan — which released during puja, the third film in the franchise will also be another thrilling adventure of Kakababu–Santu, this time in the jungles of Africa.

“This time, Kakababu, along with Santu reaches Kenya for a night’s stay before their trip the great Masai Mara Game Reserve and a string of thrill starts from there. Alongside the story, the USP about Kakababur Protyaborton i
s the amazing location that the film has been shot in. I am sure the audience will get to witness the extravaganza of Africa’s wildlife through this film. Although we had challenges of filming wild animals, shooting this film didn’t feel like a pressure at all as we had tremendous fun on sets while experiencing the beauty of African jungles!,” said Srijit.
Based on Sunil Gangopadhyay’s Jongoler Moddhey Ek Hotel, the film stars the popular loved pair of Prosenjit Chatterjee and Aryann Bhowmick along with Anirban Chakrabarti in the lead. The film, has been extensively shot in the exotic locations of Kenya, which will serve as a visual treat to the audience.
Optimistic about the much-awaited adventure film, Mahendra Soni, co-founder and director, SVF said, “Kakababu will undoubtedly be one of the biggest regional releases during Christmas. The first two has been so well received that I can already imagine the audience’s excitement to watch the third one on the big screen. I hope the thrilling adventures of Kakababu and Santu combined with the larger-than-life visuals of Africa’s wildlife in the film will remain as a memorable experience in the minds of the audience for a long time.”
