BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: Skoda India has announced that it has begun bookings for its compact Karoq SUV, a model that replaces the Yeti and is positioned under the Kodiaq in the current line-up. The booking amount is set at Rs 50,000. The Karoq was globally launched in 2018, and was first shown to the Indian market at 2020 Auto Expo at Greater Noida.
The Karoq is 4,382 mm long, 1,841 mm wide, 1,605 mm high on a wheelbase of 2,638 mm and is built on Volkswgaen’s MQB platform and can be configured as 2WD or AWD.
The Karoq will be offered with a BS VI 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine which belts out 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque.Depending on markets, there’s a choice of a manual 6-speed gearbox or a 7-speed DSG transmission available from the manufacturer. With this set-up, 0-100 km/h performance comes up in 8.4 seconds. Some markets will get the model with Active Cylinder Technology which can seamlessly shut off cylinders when output is not required.
Skoda also offers Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) for this model and driver can choose from three chassis modes: Comfort, Standard and Sport. In Driving Mode Select, the driver can change steering characteristics, operation of the DSG transmission, and the settings of other systems in the Normal, Eco, Sport and Individual modes. The individual settings are saved on the optional, personalisable key for up to three vehicle users. Connectivity features in the Karoq include Android Auto and Apple CarPlay,
Premium feature packaging include panoramic sunroof, virtual cockpit, and 9 airbags. The car’s infotainment comes from the second generation of the Group’s Modular Infotainment Matrix, offering state-of-the-art functions, interfaces and equipped with capacitive touch displays.
Safety features include ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, electronic stability program, traction control and more. The Karoq, like the VW T-ROC, will be brought to India via (complete built up (CBU) route.
While final pricing hasn’t been officially announced, the Karoq’s is expected to sell from Rs 20-24 lakh ex-showroom. Skoda has confirmed that the deliveries of the Karoq SUV will commence from May 6, 2020, onward.
