BH CORRESPONDENT, Mumbai: Few days before Indian Cinema has lost one of its iconic choreographers Saroj Khan, and on Wednesday, Bollywood’s Soorma Bhopali aka veteran actor Jagdeep breathed his last at the age of 81 in Mumbai and was suffering from age-related problems. Jagdeep’s real name Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jafri.
Though he has acted in more than 400 films such as Purana Mandir, Khilona, Andaz Apna Apna, he is most famous for his character Soorma Bhopali in the film Sholay. “Mera naam Soorma Bhopali aise hi nahin hai,” was his dialogue. He is father to actor Javed Jafferi and television host Naved.
Veteran actor Johny Lever expressed his condolence over the demise of the actor. He remembered the first time he ever faced the camera and it was for the film, Yeh Rishta Na Toote and that, too, with Jagdeep. “My first film & the first time I ever faced the camera, was in the film #yehrishtanatoote with the legend himself #Jagdeep bhai. We will miss you…May his soul rest in peace 🙏🏽 Our prayers & deepest condolences to the family,” posted Johny Lever on Twitter.
