BH CORRESPONDENT, New Delhi: Congress leader Shashi Tharoor on Tuesday reacted strongly to US President Donald Trump’s ‘retaliation‘ threat to India over possible non-export of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), remarking that he had never heard any head of state or government threatening another, just like Trump did.
On Monday, speaking at his daily coronavirus task force briefing at the White House, Trump had said that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi doesn’t allow US’ order for hydroxychloroquine to come out, there may be a ‘retaliation’ to it.
Reacting to this, Tharoor tweeted: “Never in my decades of experience in world affairs, have I heard a Head of State or Government openly threatening another like this. What makes Indian hydroxychloroquine ‘our supply,’ Mr President?”
Never in my decades of experience in world affairs have I heard a Head of State or Govt openly threatening another like this. What makes Indian hydroxychloroquine “our supply”, Mr President? It only becomes your supply when India decides to sell it to you. @USAndIndia https://t.co/zvSPEysTNf

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also reacted to Trump’s statement and said, “Friendship isn’t about retaliation”.
Friendship isn’t about retaliation. India must help all nations in their hour of need but lifesaving medicines should be made available to Indians in ample quantities first.
