BH CORRESPONDENT, Mumbai: After Samajwadi Party MP and veteran actor Jaya Bachchan spoke emphatically in the parliament against what she called attempts to vilify the film industry with allegations of drug abuse related to the Sushant Singh Rajput death investigation, security has been beefed up outside Jalsa, the Bachchans’ iconic bungalow in Juhu, Mumbai. The police called it a precautionary measure amid vicious trolling of Jaya Bachchan on social media after her speech.
Jaya Bachchan hit out at BJP MP Ravi Kishan over his comments on drugs in Bollywood in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. She said, “Just because of a few people, you cannot tarnish the whole industry. This industry brings international name and fame to the country. I was really embarrassed and ashamed that yesterday one our members in the Lok Sabha, who is from the industry, spoke against the film industry. Jis thaali me khaate hain usi me chched karte hain.”
On Monday, Ravi Kishan raised the topic of drug addiction that is prevalent in film industry and also appreciated the work that is being done by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the Lok Sabha. The Bhojpuri actor also alleged in the Lok Sabha that the neighbouring countries of Pakistan and China are hatching conspiracy to destroy the youth of India by drug trafficking.
“A conspiracy is being hatched to destroy the country’s youth and our neighbouring countries are adding to it. The smuggling of drugs from Pakistan and China is being carried out every year. It is being brought via Punjab and Nepal,” said the BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh, NDTV quoted the actor.
But Jaya Bachchan has received a lot of support from Bollywood celebrities. From Farhan Akhtar, Taapsee Pannu, Anubhav Sinha, Hema Malini, Sonam Kapoor to Swara Bhaskar, Richa Chadha lauded her speech in the Rajya Sabha. However, Kangana Ranaut, as usual, was critical of the veteran actor’s speech and asked if she’d maintain her stance if her children — Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan — were the ones affected instead.
