BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: A team of Special Task Force (STF) arrested four persons and confiscated banned drugs worth Rs 3.5 crores from Maidan area on Saturday evening. Police feel, that the two of the accused are from Malda who were assisting the main two accused who are known drug dealers. Based on a specific tip off, the STF team raided two cars at Syed baba Mazar in Maidan area and found thousands of Yaba tablets packed secretly inside different body parts of the vehicles. Officials said that the two main accused are from Manipur.
A senior officer on terms of anonymity said, “We had arrested a few major drug dealers from North east province. During interrogation, one of them had told us that huge consignments of the banned drugs were supposed to land here in the city. Based on the inputs, we had activated our intelligence who in turn alerted about the two suspicious cars at the Maidan area.”
As soon as the officials arrested the four from inside the two cars at around 6 pm, they started to search the cars thoroughly. During the intensive search process, the cops found almost 1.5 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets packed inside the front and rear gates of both the cars that together weighed about 14 kgs and would cost almost Rs 3.5 crore.
The officer further informed that the two main accused from Manipur are Muhammed Zakir Ahmed and Muhammed Ziaur Rehman. The other two from Malda who police think are helpers are Atiur Rehman and Amirul Shiekh. The officer said, “These two people from Malda were hired to show the routes in West Bengal as they used to work as conductors with a transport company that runs their buses from Kolkata to different parts of the state especially Siliguri. The four were produced to the court today and the court sent them to five days police custody.”
