BH CORRESPONDENT, Mumbai: Actor Arun Govil, who rose to soaring popularity for essaying the character of Lord Ram in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan (1987) was trending all day on social media when a photograph of him watching the popular mythological show along with his family, which made a return on Doordarshan amid the nationwide lockdown went viral.
Ramayan is trending ever since the lockdown has been announced and the public has been demanding its comeback on TV when there are no new episodes of daily soaps. Ramayan also starred Deepika Chikhalia and Sunil Lahri as Sita and Lakshman. On Friday, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted to say that Ramayan and Mahabharat will air on DD National and DD Bharati .

“Happy to announce that on public demand, we are starting re-telecast of Ramayan from tomorrow, Saturday March 28 on DD National. One episode in morning 9 am to 10 am, another in the evening 9 pm to 10 pm,” Javadekar tweeted. He also said that on public demand the shows are being retelecast amid the lockdown.
Meanwhile, Byomkesh Bakshi, Mahabharat, and Circus, which had Shah Rukh Khan, are also being re-telecast on Doordarshan.
That’s not all. Shaktimaan, the superman series of Indian television which was aired from 1997 to 2005, is also set to return to the small screen once again. The show will be re-telecast on Doordashan every day for an hour from April 2 at 1 PM.
Mukesh Khanna, who played the lead role in the series, tweeted, “130 crore Indians will together get the opportunity to watch Shaktimaan on DD once again. Wait for the announcement.”
Sharing a video, he said, “Getting to watch two epics of our country ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Mahabharata’ in one day was a matter of great happiness for the 135 crore people who are under lockdown. Sit at home and enjoy. There could not have been a bigger good news. But I’d like to add something to this happy news for my ‘Shaktimaan’ fans, that ‘Shaktimaan’ is also going to come very soon.”

The actor also played the character of Bhishma in Mahabharata.
