AGENCIES, Madrid: The deadly coronavirus is spreading its fatal fingers into the world of sports as well with former Real Madrid president Lorenzo Sanz passing away after contracting the virus. He was 76.
He was admitted to a hospital on Tuesday and had been suffering from a respiratory ailment according to his son Lorenzo Sans Duran, who confirmed the death on Twitter. He tweeted, “My father has just passed away. He did not deserve this ending and in this way. One of the best, most courageous and hard working people I have seen in my life. His family and Real Madrid were his passion.”
Sanz was president of the Spanish football giants for five years from 1995-2000. During that period, the club won the Champions League twice and one La Liga title. He was also responsible for signing top notch players like Roberto Carlos and Clarence Seedorf.
Real Madrid’s official Twitter handle mourned this loss and listed his achievements while he was part of the club.

In Italy, AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini and his son Daniel have also tested positive for coronavirus.
