BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: Dharmajuddha filmmaker Raj Chakraborty and his wife-actress Subhashree Ganguly have contributed to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES), West Bengal chief minister Emergency relief fund to fight the COVID-19 crisis. They have also donated to the fund set up for Bengali cine technicians who live on daily wages. Though Tollywood’s powercouple didn’t disclose the amount, it is important in times of extreme emergency like this, where West Bengal has seen six deaths and 37 positive cases so far and India has more than 1,600 positive cases and 38 deaths, that more come forward to help. And that is exactly what they did.
Taking to Twitter, the Parineeta actress wrote, “In these difficult times, it is very necessary that we all come forward to help one another with whatever stands feasible.” Sharing the message on social media, she captioned it, “Our little contribution @iamrajchoco#StayHomeStaySafe #FightCOVID19 @PMOIndia @MamataOfficial.”

In addition, the couple also mentioned that a team from their end is also helping out the poor with ration. Raj and Subhashree have been raising awareness on social media on coronavirus from day one. They along with their family participated in the Janta Curfew activity too.
When the migrant labourers who had made their way to Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh were sprayed with what is believed to be some kind of disinfectant that supposedly kills coronavirus, Subhashree raised her voice on Twitter and questioned, “Are disinfectants supposed to be sprayed on humans? Is this how one plans to fight coronavirus? By being inhuman? In these dire times empathy & humanity is all we need. So where is that?”
Raj, who was the chairperson of the Kolkata International Film Festival last year, has been continuously appreciating the good work of WB chief minister Mamata Banerjee, especially the way she took to the streets to explain to the people the rules of social distancing. The Proloy director also raised the issue of payment of the daily wage earners when PM Modi announced 21 days of nationwide lockdown.
We have to maintain protocols for our well being and others. But what about the daily wages workers & private sector employees? I urge the Government to consider them, so that they can survive and overcome this as well.#StayHome #StaySafe #FightCorona
