AGENCIES, Pune: Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, which has rocked the world, claiming 19,601 lives and infecting 4,34,511 people globally, the Pune-based Mylab Discovery Solutions Pvt Ltd has developed India’s first indigenous COVID-19 testing kit, news agency ANI reported. And good news is kit has received commercial approval from the Indian FDA/ Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
Ranjit Desai, scientist at Mylab Discovery Solutions Pvt Ltd, told ANI that they can produce 1 to 1.5 lakh test kits in a week and these cost 1/4th the price of their imported counterparts.
“We can produce 1 to 1.5 lakh tests in a week, we are trying to increase our production for the public. These kits cost 1/4th the price that the imported kits are being sold for,” Desai said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday announced a 21-day long nationwide lockdown to combat the COVID-19 outbreak in the country which claimed 10 lives so far with 562 tested positive.
Meanwhile, the government on Wednesday banned export of anti-malarial drug hydroxycloroquine with immediate effect to ensure sufficient availability of the medicine in the domestic market.
This came after the ICMR on Monday recommended the use of hydroxycloroquine for treating healthcare workers handling the suspected or confirmed coronavirus cases.
