BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: It might just look like a scene from a Bollywood film when four miscreants posing as police officers robbed silver jewellery, precious stones and pearls from a man in broad daylight. The incident took place in Jorabagan area of North Kolkata on Tuesday.

According to a police officer, a jewellery businessman from Barasat had sent one of his employees — Loknath Rajbangshi — to Kolkata to buy silver. From Goranhata, he bought silver jewelry, some precious stones and pearls. He had packed all the jewellery in a bag and was just about to board an auto-rickshaw near BK Pal Avenue. At that rime, four persons in Kolkata Police uniform arrived in a white vehicle and stopped him. They asked him about his whereabout and the item he bought. A nervous Rajbangshi, told them that he had purchased silver jewellery. On hearing this, the people dressed in police uniform wanted to see the papers. Even before showing the paper, he was asked to go to the police station.

“The perpetrators of the crime snatched Rajbangshi’s bag and his mobile phone soon after taking him inside the car and allegedly threw him out of the vehicle. He somehow reached Barasat and narrated the whole story to the businessman who has sent him to Kolkata. The businessman then filed a complaint with the Jorabagan police station,” said a police official.

Police have started an investigation. They are also looking into all CCTV footage and local shopkeepers in the area are being questioned. The investigators are trying to identify the vehicle in which the miscreants arrived at the crime scene.

This is not the first time such an incident has happened where the miscreants have committed a crime in the disguise of policemen. There has also been evidence of police involvement in many such incidents.
