to make people understand the importance of social distancing, but also distributing food and essential commodities, sanitizing areas and engaging in naka check to make sure the city gets ride of coronavirus soon. And alongside Kolkata Police, district police are also using drones to keep a watch on the situation amid lockdown.
On Saturday, Kolkata Police deployed drones in Burrabazar area and later in some other places. The drones were deployed in several districts including West Midnapore, Islampur, Murshidabad and Hooghly.
Dinesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police, West Midnapore said they are also using drones in Daspur and Dantan areas to monitor the movement of people during the COVID-19 situation.
In the village of Daspur , three persons of a family were found coronavirus positive. “We have sealed the two villages in Daspur and Dantan area. We are also using drones to keep a close watch on the movement of the people. A lot of people are coming out of their houses without reasons on their motorbikes. We are taking down the numbers. If we find out that the motorcycles are frequently plying on the roads, we will take legal action,” said Kumar.
Police officers in Murshidabad and Hooghly are also relying on this technology to check in on COVID-19 situation in the districts. “We have used drones in Dalkhola area and some other places. It is helping us to maintain law and order and movements of the police force as we can get the picture where the people are assembling,” said Sachin Makkar, SP, Islampur Police District.
Since the drones can capture videos and the pictures, the feeds are coming to the control room immediately, which is helping the police to take necessary action at once.
The district police are also taking necessary steps so that the elderly and sick people do not face any problem while going to the bank and health centers. Birbhum district police have taken an initiative in which the children and their mothers won’t have to worry when it comes to getting baby food and other things needed for the kids. The police have named it ‘Matri Sneha’. In this case, police have given a contact number and some woman police officials will take the baby food and other essential items for the kids when called.
