BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: In 2012, Suman Maitra directed Koel Mallick and Indraneil Sengupta in Bengali film Doshhomi. In between, he had directed middle-of-the-road films like 71 Broken Lines, The Best Seller and Aami O Apu. Now, the director is back with another coming-of- age crime thriller Shimanto. And he has roped in a number of established Tollywood actors to star in his new Bengali feature film.
From Payel Sarkar, Rahul Arunoday Banerjee, Shaheb Bhattacherjee to Rano Joy Bishnu, the Bengali film is a multistarrer and takes place along the India-Bangladesh border. An elite team of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) strives to detect and eliminate a nexus of crime leading a potentially lethal operation in Kolkata along the India Bangladesh border lines. We witness a dark realism lost in time and space as their lives become inescapably intertwined in a coming-of-age crime thriller. It is about the power of positive hope, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption from innocence to revelation.
“Quantum Physics of lost time and space sheds light on human trafficking from an unusual point of view. The thriller helps recall the millions of innocent victims of the No Man’s Land,” says the director. While Bappaditya Subhro will compose the music, Smriti will take care of the cinematography.
