BH CORRESPONDENT, New Delhi: Vinay Sharma, one of the convicts of Nirbhaya case, approached a Delhi court on Thursday with a plea for higher medical treatment for “serious head injury, right arm fracture, mental illness and schizophrenia.”
His lawyer claimed that he is unable to recognise people, including his mother. He also requested for Vinay to be treated at the Institute of Human Behaviour & Allied Sciences hospital.
According to a jail officer, Vinay tried to hurt himself by repeatedly banging his head against the cell wall on Sunday afternoon. Security personnel stopped him after they noticed the incident. He suffered minor injuries.
A Delhi court ordered Monday that Vinay (26) along with other three convicts — Mukesh Kumar Singh (32), Pawan Gupta (25) and Akshay Kumar (31) in the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case will be hanged on at 6 am on March 3.
The lawyer had informed the court that earlier Vinay was on hunger strike and he was suffering from mental illness. He was assaulted in jail and has head injuries, hence the death sentence cannot be carried out.
The Delhi court will hear the case on February 22, and asked Tihar Jail officials to respond the requests.
