KUNAL CHATTERJEE, Kolkata: The coronavirus scare in Kolkata took a curious turn after neighbours of those who have returned from a foreign trip began calling up the local police station, asking the cops to have those people tested.
A senior police officer posted with the Thakurpukur police station said that they had an unusual experience on Thursday when they responded to one such call from Diamond Park. “One person called us to say that his neighbour had returned from the UK and he is a huge risk to the community. As we kept getting calls rom the same area, we visited the spot.”
The cops found that locals had gathered around the house of the couple and locked the gates. The police took the couple to the nearest government hospital from where they were sent to Beliaghata ID Hospital.
The officer said that more such calls are being made. “This has been happening in many police station areas. Since Thursday, cops had responded to six such calls. We have directed the police to take adequate precautions before they handle such cases. All these people are being sent to the Beliaghata ID Hospital,” the senior police officer said.
