BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: A 66- year- old man, who is a resident of Nayabad area in Kolkata, has tested coronavirus positive on Wednesday late in the night. He is admitted at a private hospital on EM Bypass since March 23. With his test report becoming positive, the total number of coronavirus infected persons reached 10 in the state of West Bengal.
The person had travelled to Egra in East Midnapore last week to attend a marriage ceremony. In between, he went to Digha. Though he has no history of travelling abroad, the wedding ceremony which he attended in Egra had some guests from abroad.
However, ever since he has been admitted to the private hospital on EM Bypass, he has complained of respiratory problems. A retired Central Government employee, his situation aggravated on Thursday and he was put on oxygen support.
After returning to his home in Kolkata, he had developed fever and body pain. The doctors advised him blood test for typhoid. The test report showed that he was suffering from typhoid. On Monday, his condition deteriorated and he developed breathing trouble. He was admitted to Peerless Hospital. The doctors suspected that he was suffering from coronavirus infection along with typhoid. His swab sample was sent to NICED on Tuesday, which was tested positive on Wednesday.
“His condition is stable though he has breathing trouble along with fever,” said Dr Amal Sarkar, his doctor at the hospital.
Meanwhile, his family members are in home quarantine at the moment. The conditions of the other eight patients admitted to Beliaghata ID Hospital are said to be stable.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal asked the Centre for a Rs 1,500 crore package to cope with COVID-19 outbreak in the state.
