BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: As most states in the country have been under strict lockdown since Sunday, the manufacturing industry is responding to the government’s call to suspend operations in view of corona virus pandemic.
Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, Mercedes Benz and Fiat have already halted their production and other operations and the latest to join the trend are
Yamaha Motor that has suspended its manufacturing operations at its plants in Chennai (Tamil Nadu), Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Faridabad (Haryana) till Mar 31.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors have brought all production operations to a standstill at their plant in Bidadi, Karnataka and all employees working at its regional SBUs (Strategic Business Units) in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Bengaluru have been instructed to work from home.
Honda Cars India has also suspended production operations at its plants in Tapukara in Rajasthan and Greater Noida in UP until Mar 31 and advised its office staff to work from home.
Suzuki Motorcycle India has also halted production at its Kherki Dhaula, Gurgaon plant until further notice.
SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) has also told component makers and vendor to stop production to ensure safety of their employees.
The corona virus pandemic has come at a same time when dealerships are struggling to clear off unsold BS IV inventory before the transition to BS VI deadline.
