BH CORRESPONDENT, Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump with a hug outside presidential jet Air Force One, after he landed at Ahmedabad, on Monday. From here they will attend a roadshow, first to the Mahatma Gandhi’s ashram on the Sabarmati riverfront and then to newly build Motera stadium.
Earlier this morning, Trump expressed his excitement on Twitter in Hindi language shortly before he arrived. “We are eager to visit India. We are on our way, will see you all in a few hours”, he tweeted in Devanagari script. PM Modi replied the tweet with a Sanskrit phrase, “Athiti Devo Bhava (Guest is god)”.
Trump’s India visit event has been named as “Namaste Trump”, which will take place at newly constructed Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Stadium after the road show, where 1.1 lakh people will attend the mega event.
“Your visit is definitely going to further strengthen the friendship between our nations,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted ahead of Trump’s arrival.
Thousands of people, many of them wearing white hats saying “Namaste Trump” or cardboard masks of Trump, have lined up along the route to the giant stadium to welcome the US President.
