BH CORRESPONDENT, New Delhi: Here comes the confirmation that many Jimny fans have been waiting for. After receiving positive feedback from visitors at the recently concluded Auto Expo 2020 in Greater Noida, top brass at Maruti Suzuki are convinced that there’s a place for the aging Gypsy replacement in the domestic market.
Once production commences, it will cater to both export and domestic markets and both versions will be mechanically identical. Powertrain hardware will be borrowed from set-ups in Ciaz, Brezza, S-Cross and Ertiga. All these models are powered by a bulletproof 1.5-litre-4 cylinder K-Series petrol engine tuned to offer 104 bhp and 138 Nm of peak torque. Power to rear wheels will be transmitted through a five-speed manual gearbox. Higher variants could be offered with a 4-speed automatic gearbox.
The Jimny won’t be a unibody model. It will have a chassis helping it to tackle the tough. For better manoeuvrability and comfort, the Jimny gets independent suspension up front and a torsion beam set-up at the rear. Leaf springs give way to coil overs.
Active and passive safety features like ABS+EBD, reverse parking sensors, twin airbags, speed alerts and seatbelt reminders will comes as standard kit across all trims.
The SUV will be sold through the company’s NEXA chain of dealerships across the country.
