BH CORRESPONDENT: Kolkata: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during an all-party meeting at Nabanna regarding the coronavirus outbreak in the state on Monday has requested the BJP representatives to pursue the central government for the release of the funds for the state government.
Mamata had a meeting with the representatives of 11 political parties at the state secretariat where they have shared their suggestions with the West Bengal government on how to combat COVID-19. All the party representatives have praised the state government’s initiative to combat the virus. Amidst various suggestions, BJP representative Joyprakash Majumdar stressed for community screening and requested to ensure the supply of test kit.
To this, Mamata responded that she asked the Centre to make more test kits available. “We have just 40 testing kits in the state. I have asked for more from the Centre. In the video-conferencing call I had with the Prime Minister I raised the issue of the non-availability of the test kits too. You please tell the central government to release adequate numbers of test kits and fund so that we could utilize the money in combating the coronavirus. The central government has not released the relief fund for the Cyclone Bulbul. If they give us the fund now then it is very helpful for us. Let us not make politics with the issue. Please come forward so that we could jointly overcome the problem,” she said.
The BJP representatives — Joyprakash Majumder and Sayantan Basu — have assured the CM that they will take up the issue with the Centre.
On Monday morning, Mamata had written a letter to Modi asking the Centre to stop flights from landing in the state amid a spike in the coronavirus cases in the country. Later, the Centre decided that no domestic flights will operate from Tuesday midnight.
Meanwhile, on Monday evening, New York City became the epicentre of coronavirus as the number of infected people crossed 5,000. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said that the city is the epicenter of the coronavirus crisis in the United States. As India, continues to battle against COVID-19, Mamata has urged the citizens of her state to abide by the government guideline. She also said that the West Bengal Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure safety and precautions for its citizens in combating COVID-19 efficiently.
She tweeted, “The West Bengal Government is leaving no stone unturned to ensure safety & precautions for its citizens in combating COVID-19 efficiently. At this critical juncture, it is only collective efforts & public cooperation which can help fight this menace.”
The state of West Bengal is under lockdown till March 27 and the CM urged all to remain indoors and not step out unless absolute necessary. She said, “We will fight this together. Only we can help keep everyone around us safe.”
It is my sincere request to all the fellow citizens to abide by Government guidelines.
Until and unless an emergency, please don’t step out of your homes.
We will fight this together. Only we can help keep everyone around us safe (2/2)
