BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday announced the names of the four TMC candidates of Rajya Sabha from West Bengal. Given, she made the announcement on International Women’s Day, two of the candidates are women. Arpita Ghosh, Mousam Benazir Noor, Subrata Bakshi and Dinesh Trivedi have been nominated for Rajya Sabha election to be held on March 26.
The forthcoming Rajya Sabha election will be held for 57 seats. The chief minister also mentioned about women empowerment on International Women’s Day. “As a part of my constant endeavour towards woman empowerment, I am proud that half of our nominations are women,” she wrote in her Twitter message.

The Trinamool supremo for the first time did not announce the Rajya Sabha candidates’ name through a pres conference. Instead, she relied on her official Twitter account to unveil the names of the candidates on Sunday.
Interestingly, the new four candidates will be replacing the four outgoing candidates namely Manish Gupta, K.D Singh, Jogen Chowdhury and Ahmed Imran Hasan.
Earlier, there were strong buzz within the party circuit that TMC’s political strategist Prashant Kishor, who was expelled from the Janata Dal(United) in January, could be a TMC candidate in the Rajya Sabha elections.
