BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: Finally the time has arrived for the Bengali film and theatre industry and that too before the Durga Puja. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee has announced that cinema halls will reopen in the state from October 1. Alongside, plays, music, dance and magic shows have also been allowed from the same date but with 50 people as of now due to coronavirus protocols. Bengal becomes the first state in the country to announce reopening of theatres.
“To return to normalcy, Jatras, Plays, OATs, Cinemas & all musical, dance, recital & magic shows shall be allowed to function with 50 participants or less from 1 Oct, subject to adherence to physical distancing norms, wearing of masks & compliance to precautionary protocols,” Mamata tweeted.

The news has been welcomed wholeheartedly by Tollywood, singers, theatre personalities and performing artistes especially before Durga Puja.

A few days back, the Bengali superstar and TMC Ghatal MP had urged Centre to consider opening cinema theatres following coronavirus guidelines. He had tweeted to I&B minister Prakash Javadekar for reopening of cinema halls.

Actor Jeet also thanked the CM for reopening the cinema halls, which have been shut since March 16.

Actress Sudiptaa Chakraborty welcomed the move and said that she hopes all maintain health directives properly.
“Cinema halls, auditoriums, live events open finally… From 1st October, I’m told.Hope we all maintain the health directives properly !!!!!!,” she posted on Facebook.
