AGENCIES, Bengaluru: Karnataka officially announced on Saturday that is was in favour of extending the lockdown. By doing so, it becomes the fourth state after Odisha, Punjab and Maharashtra to do so and the first BJP-ruled state to extend the lockdown.
The decision was announced by chief minister BS Yediyurappa and the period of lockdown will be extended for another fortnight after April 14. Yediyurappa, said that the lockdown will continue as before but there will be some relaxations for the agricultural and industrial sectors.
“The lockdown for the next two weeks will be different from what is being implemented currently. Agricultural and industrial sectors will be given relaxation. Government offices will function with partial strength and the additional guidelines stated by the PM would be issued in the next couple of days,” the Yediyurappa said in a press conference after a nearly four-hour long video conference that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had with all CMs.
A BJP party MLA from Turuvekere Masale Jayaram who celebrated his birthday grandly on Friday with about 100 children and adults by serving biryani and openly flouting the lockdown guidelines has been booked by the local administration.
An FIR has been registered against the legislator for not maintaining social distance during the event. Jayaram hosted the event at a government school in Tumkuru, videos of which have gone viral now.
