BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: The Kolkata Police has booked 20 people, including senior BJP leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya and Mukul Roy, for unlawful assembly during the party’s mega ‘Nabanna Chalo’ protest against the state government on Thursday.
All 20 people have been booked for unlawful assembly and having a common object to approach the state secretariat, besides causing damage to public property.
The case against these leaders has been lodged at Hastings police station, which is located in the same area where Kailash Vijayvargiya led a rally on Thursday.
Besides Kailash Vijaywargiya (BJP national secretary), and Mukul Roy (BJP’s national vice-president), other leaders who have been booked include BJP MPs Locket Chatterjee, Arjun Singh, Rakesh Singh and BJP leaders Bharati Ghosh and Jayprakash Majumdar.
Reacting to the police action, Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh said, “Police are working like Trinamool Congress cadres. It is clear that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is scared and is hence using police as her cadre. The cases lodged against us are shameful. This is not how a democracy works, we will fight it legally.”
