BH CORRESPONDENT, New Delhi: According to the Union health ministry’s website, the coronavirus cases climbed to 20,471 in the country and 652 people have lost their lives to the disease. In the last 24 hours, 1,486 fresh cases have been recorded in the country. The county has also reported 49 deaths in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, 3,959 people have been cured or discharged so far.
Maharashtra recorded 5,221 cases. However, 722 people have also cured from the disease in the state. Meanwhile, the number COVID-19 deaths rose to 251 today in the state.
Delhi has 2,156 coronavirus infections, and 47 deaths. Tamil Nadu has 1,596 cases. The southern state has reported 18 COVID-19 deaths.
Telangana has 945 cases, Uttar Pradesh continues to register a higher number of positive cases and now the number stands at 1,412 with 21 deaths and 165 cured.
The central health ministry data says, West Bengal has reported 423 cases with 15 deaths.
Meanwhile, West Bengal state chief secretary Rajiva Sinha informed that Bengal has recorded 32 new positive cases. The total number stands at 300 and till Wednesday evening 79 people have recovered. So, the discrepancy in numbers still remains.
On Tuesday, Mamata Banerjee visited Rajabazar, Tiljala, Mathpukur, Topsia areas in Kolkata and on Wednesday, she visited Khidderpore, Ballygunje and Garden Reach and urged people to stay at home and maintain lockdown. She said she understands their difficulties during the lockdown, however, she would want all to have patience and abide by the government directives.
Meanwhile, attacks on healthcare workers will now carry a jail term of up to seven years and a hefty fine, the government said on Wednesday as instances of such attacks spiralled across the country. The government has also made the Epidemic Act a concurrent Act so it can make decisions and take action during an epidemic to control road, rail, marine and air traffic.
