KAUSHIK DUTTA, Kharagpur: Amid lockdown, when all the educational institutions including IIT Kharagpur is closed, a body of a research scholar has been recovered from room number 245 in D block of Babasaheb Ambedkar Hostel. The body of 28-years-old Bhavanibala Kondala Rao has been recovered on Monday. Rao, who was doing his research on mechanical engineering, hanged himself in his hostel room. A resident of Vijaywada, Andhra Pradesh, Rao tied the knot last February.
The IIT Kharagpur authorities had informed that they are yet to find out the reason why Rao has committed suicide. “There was no problem in his studies nor we could located any other matter. We cannot find any reason behind this suicide,” said Bhrigunath Singh, the registrar of the premium institute. Rao was in the institute since 2016.
After the classes were suspended due to coronavirus lockdown, maximum students, who are staying in the hostels of IIT Kharagpur have left for their home and only a few, including some research scholars have stayed back.
Sources said that on Monday morning the family members of Rao made several calls on his mobile but it went unanswered. Then they called a friend. The friend knocked on the door of Rao and after getting no response, when he looked through the window he found Rao body.
The police of Kharagpur Town police station had taken the body for postmortem and also have seized the laptop of the student for further investigation.
