AGENCIES, France: A Soetrich footballer in the local French league has been handed a five-year suspension for biting his opponent’s penis during a car park fight after a match on17 November, 2019.
According to a local news website in Lorraine, two rival players from Terville and Soetrich were involved in a post-match fight when a third player came into scene in a bid to separate the warring factions. It was at this juncture one of the player responded by biting the peacemaker’s private part. The victim required emergency assistance and received 10 stitches.
“The events took place after the match, in the stadium car park. There was an altercation, an escalation and things got worse,” said Emmanuel Saling of the Mosellan football district, adding that the blame was “more or less shared”.
Saling said since the case was quite unusual, so the disciplinary committee called an expert witness before deciding on the quantum of sentence. As a result, the Soetrich player has been suspended for five years and the injured Terville player was also handed out a relatively softer suspension of six months.
“It’s quite rare to have sanctions of several years, there are less than 10 per year,” Saling said. “The case was a bit saucy, but … there must have been some nasty tension, so the smiles on the disciplinary committee quickly faded.”
The match between Soetrich and Terville ended in a 1-1 draw which would have given Terville their first point of the season. Since they were punished with two penalty points and fined € 200 for failing to meet their safety obligations, hence were downgraded.
