BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: After NRS Hospital and R.G Kar, the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital’s Eden Block where maternity ward is located has been closed for patients after a woman tested coronavirus positive on Sunday late night. All three are government hospitals.
The woman, a resident of the Narkeldanga area, had given birth to a baby on Sunday afternoon. The swab sample of the baby has also been sent to NICED in Pune for testing.
Hospital authorities have prepared a list of 50 doctors, nurses and healthcare staff who were on duty at the ward and could be infected by the COVID-19 virus. All of them have been put in home quarantine.
Earlier, the male medicine wards of NRS Medical College and Hospital and R.G Kar Medical College and Hospital were closed after patients had been found carrying the COVID-19 virus.
Sources in the Medical College said that a PWD employee of the electrical department has also been found COVID-19 positive. Hospital authorities have decided to test the swab samples of the 18 patients presently admitted in the Eden wing.
“We are shifting all these 18 patients to other hospitals and they will be kept in the isolation ward. We are fumigating the entire ward and operation theatre,” Medical College superintendent Dr Indranil Biswas said.
