BH CORRESPONDENT, Mumbai: Nishikant Kamat, who directed Hindi films including Drishyam, Force, Rocky Handsome and Madaari, passed away at 4.24 pm at a private hospital in Hyderabad today. He was 50. He was undergoing treatment for cirrhosis of liver.
Hours before Kamat died, false news of his death spread. Ajay Devgn, who acted in Drishyam, tweeted, “My equation with Nishikant was not just about Drishyam, a film which he directed with Tabu and me. It was an association that I cherished. He was bright; ever-smiling. He has gone too soon. RIP Nishikant.”

Genelia Deshmukh, who acted in Kamat’s Force, said she found a life coach in him.

Kamat made his directorial debut with Marathi movie Dombivali Fast in 2005, which won him the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Marathi. Later in 2008, he made his directorial debut in Bollywood with Mumbai Meri Jaan, which was based on the 2006 Mumbai bombings.
“He has been diagnosed with chronic liver disease and other secondary infections. He is in the intensive care unit for continuous monitoring under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of senior consultants comprising of Gastroenterologists, Hepatologists, Critical Care and others. His condition is critical but stable,” a statement from the hospital read.
