KAUSHIK DUTTA, Midnapore: The police officials are working on the frontline in the fight against coronavirus and to safeguard their health, the West Midnapore district police have installed “sanitiser” tunnel. This is the first time that such a tunnel has been installed for the police officials in the state.
It is been installed near the entrance of Midnapore Police Lines. The police personnel and their family members on the campus have to go through the disinfectant tunnel when they will enter the police lines.
Police told us that they have installed the tunnel keeping in mind the WHO (World Health Organization) guidelines. So, one ppm sodium hydrochloride is mixed in every one thousand liter water. There are some small holes in the tunnel and the sanitiser will come out when one will go through the tunnel. “As it is a spirit-based liquid, the wet-like thing will vanish within a few seconds and the police official will reach his home after been disinfected. With this they will be able to sanitize his whole body before reaching his residence after working,” said a police officer.
More than 10 thousand people, including police personnel and their family members stay in the police lines area. Earlier such a sanitiser tunnel was installed in the Kharagpur Cabin Crew Lobby.
“I am not saying that it is enough to sanitise or disinfect. It is an additional measure, which we have taken. We have to wash hands and keep social distance as well. But we have installed this disinfectant tunnel as another precautionary measure to disinfect the police personnel who have to work on the field and also return to their family,” said Dinesh Kumar, SP, West Midnapore.
