AGENCIES, Buffalo: Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who is currently serving jail time for sexual assault and rape, has tested positive for coronavirus which has infected over 3.4 lakh people and caused over 14,000 deaths worldwide.
According to a report by Reuters, he tested positive for the deadly COVID-19 on Sunday. Weinstein was placed at Rikers Island prison but has been shifted to an isolation ward at Wende Correctional Facility in Buffalo after he tested positive.
The Niagara Gazette, a local publication, first reported that Weinstein had tested positive for coronavirus. Weinstein’s legal team denied to the news agency that they were notified about his condition.
The former movie producer was at the forefront of the global #MeTooMovement after women whom he assaulted came up and accused him in public, prompting other women who faced similar situations to open up. It gradually became a movement against sexual harassment in workspaces and patriarchal attitudes while uplifting women empowerment.
A prisoner other than Weinstein has also tested positive for the virus as told by an official to Reuters.
