BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: How many of us are struggling in our relationships? Well, in reality we all are. And then there are people who are confused why and when they should get married? And then at times we come at crossroads when we have slept with him or her. Just that you have slept with him once means you have to marry him? Well, you can deny too. Take time and think over the relationship. Do you really love the person?
Does all this sound familiar? We are sure some of us have discussed this ‘relationship problem’ with our friends. In Rahool Mukherjee’s new Bengali film Kishmish the director will explore a lot of such crazy, fun and relatable relationship issues through the characters of Tintin (Dev) and Rohini (Rukmini Maitra). Many might not remember, but Rajkummar Rao shot for his debut Bengali film — Ami Saira Bano. It was directed by Rahool and Rajkummar was playing the role of a transgender. The film, however, never saw the light of the day.
Here Dev will be seen playing three different characters in Kismish. And interestingly, the film will show the characters cruise through three different time periods — 1980, 2000 and 2020. However, Rukmini will only be seen playing one character.
Dev, who is also the producer of Kishmish, took to social media to announce the film on Valentine’s Day. He shared an animation video which introduces Tintin and Rohini. Interestingly, Tintin will be seen as a cartoonist in the film and thus the idea to make the announcement through an animation video. “It’s a very contemporary and relatable love story. The conversations between Tintin and Rohini are just the way today’s youngsters talk. At Dev Entertainment Ventures, we are always looking out for newer concepts. And in 2020, we are introducing two new talented directors — Avijit Sen (Tonic) and Rahool (Kishmish). Rahool had this brilliant story idea of a love story and I haven’t done a story love for a long time. Also, I liked the treatment of the story,” said Dev, who is presently shooting for Dhrubo Banerjee’s football film Golondaaj.
A lot of thought has gone into the announcement teaser. Within two days, Dev had seen 4-5 versions of the video. “An elaborate pre-production is required for this film. But we wanted to give something special to the audience this Durga Puja,” said the Sanjhbati actor.
This Durga Puja, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Srijit Mukherji are set to make a comeback with their next Kakababu film. So, Dev has an adorable message at the end of the video for the audience too. “Amid the detective films, we are offering a small, cute love story this Durga Puja. And we hope the audience to enjoy it too,” he smiled.
The moment Dev shared the video his fans got excited about the film. “R e Dev da eta ki dekhlm Oshadharon First Cut eta.. Bhishon romantic, halka chele manushi r temni creativity.. Just Chorom laglo.. “. Be the king of your Own World,” commented Indian Bong Boy. Another user Sanchayan Sinha posted, “Uffff kichu bolar nei.. The best teaser I have ever seen.”
The video might remind some of Saif Ali Khan and Rani Mukerji’s 2004 Hum Tum, where Saif played a cartoonist. “The concepts are poles part. Let’s not jump to any conclusion,” Dev said.
