BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: On Sunday, apart from the general public, Bengali film and television celebrities also responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal and came out in their balconies and clapped to express their gratitude to the medical professionals combating the coronavirus outbreak, which has by now infected 396 people and killed six.

Actor and Ghatal TMC MP Dev was seen clapping from his balcony. However, he had something very important to say. He urged everyone to say at home and maintain distance. The West Bengal government had also announced a lockdown till March 27, and he posted that Dev supports the lockdown as it will help us to achieve a better and a safe tomorrow. The producer of Hobu Chandra Raja Gobu Chandra Mantri also mentioned that he is in self quarantine. “This unity was unreal and unparalleled. But now we need to stay at home and remain distanced for sometime. I support the lockdown, as it will help us to achieve a better and a safer tomorrow. #Quarantine #SelfQuarantine #LetsFightCoronaTogether,” tweeted Dev.

Tota Roy Choudhury took it one notch higher. He blew the conch shell and he was a pro. The actor, who will soon be seen as Feluda in Srijit Mukherji’s new web series, also thanked the members of administration, medical community, police force who are risking their lives to keep Indians safe from Coronavirus.

Bengali hit filmmaker Arindam Sil appreciated the steps taken by the Bengal government and Central in the coronavirus outbreak and took party in the 5 pm Janta Curfew activity. Stepping out on his balcony, he rang the bell.

Proud and happy to have been able to applaud for all out there who are risking their own lives to just ensure our safety, our lives. Great steps taken by our state and central govt. @MamataOfficial and @PMOIndia. Together we can. And we will. Salute. pic.twitter.com/xDddMy6jPc

Tollywood very busy actor Jisshu Sengupta also participated in the activity with his daughters. His wife Nilanjanaa took to Twitter to share lovely photographs of those moments and captioned it, “We deeply appreciate all those noble souls who do not have the luxury of staying at home & are working tirelessly to keep us safe. HUGE RESPECT BIG LOVEย  to all the essential service providers.
Thank you @Jisshusengupta @SaraSengupta @ZaraSengupta.”

Meanwhile, director-actor Parambrata Chatterjee broached an important topic. Though he lauded the efforts of the citizens coming together and appreciating the work done by the health workers, he also pointed out how some citizens took to the streets defying the norms of social distancing. “While the whole country got together to cheer the essential caregivers, irrespective of language religion & politics, it was absolutely heartbreaking to see herds of people Coming out as if to โ€˜celebrateโ€™! It defeats the whole goddamn purpose! Guys, wake up!,” tweeted the Dwitiyo Purush actor.

Actress Sudiptaa Chakraborty had posted on Facebook how she had fun blowing the conch shell, banging the steel thaali. And she is thankful to those health workers who are working day and night in this crisis to save those coronavirus infected patients. However, she was taken aback to see on TV how people gathered in numbers on the streets during Janta Curfew. During this time of crisis, social distancing was to be maintained, but some people defied the basic rule. “No one can save us actually. No one !!!,” she posted.

Switzerland actress Rukmini Maitra also shared an important thought. Rukmini has been raising awareness about COVID-19 through social media and on Sunday once again, she urged the citizens to stay at home. “Impose Self-Quarantine. Exercise Restrain.
Stay Home. Stay Safe,” she wrote in Twitter.

Now that #5Baje5Minute ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป is over.
Understand the value of it and STAY IN.
Please STAY HOME.
No matter how beautiful this 5 minute experience was, let’s only pray that we never have to repeat it!
Impose Self-Quarantine. Exercise Restrain.
Stay Home. Stay Safe.
