BH CORRESPONDENT, Kashmir: A 55-year- old man from North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, who tested positive for coronavirus on Saturday, died at a Srinagar hospital on Sunday. This is the second coronavirus death in Jammu & Kashmir.
A doctor at the Chest Disease Hospital, Srinagar, said the patient, who was kept in isolation ward after testing positive on Saturday, died on Sunday morning. The deceased was identified as a resident of Tangmarg, Baramulla. The number of COVID-19 cases is now 38 in Jammu and Kashmir. In the last 36 hours, 24 cases have been reported in J&K.
According to data from the Union Health Ministry the number of deaths due to COVID-19 now stands at 25, with 979 positive cases. Sixty-one new cases of COVID-19 was reported in the last 16 hours; this follows Saturday’s figures of nearly 200 cases.
Overall, 25 people have died in various states including Bengal, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Kerala, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar. Maharashtra has so far reported 7 deaths, Madhya Pradesh 2, Karnataka 3, Gujarat 4, and Delhi 2.
Maharashtra has the highest number of coronavirus positive cases: 193, followed by Kerala at 182 and Karnataka at 76.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who declared a 21-day lockdown last week, today warned against violation of the restrictions, saying those doing so were “playing with their own lives”.
The deadly coronavirus has claimed over 30,000 lives and infected at least 6,65,295 people across 201 countries. The outbreak has been particularly grim in the US, Italy and Spain, apart from China, where it originated in December 2019.
