BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday extended the lockdown from Municipality areas to entire state till March 31. The lockdown will come into force from 5 pm today.
This came after Bengal reported two new positive coronavirus cases on Tuesday raising the total count to nine with one fatality. Earlier, it was issued that the municipality areas will be under lockdown till March 27.
“After taking a look at the current circumstances, the lockdown has been extended till March 31 and it will be applicable through out the state including small towns and villages,” Mamata said.
One the first day of the lockdown, at least 300 people were arrested for violating the rules, which has been enforced to battle the coronavirus outbreak in West Bengal on Monday night.
It was around 11.50 pm on Monday when Kolkata police commissioner Anuj Sharma tweeted on his official handle that 255 people had been arrested for violating restrictions.
