AGENCIES, Mumbai: The government has established Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation Funds (PM-CARES Fund) and PM Narendra Modi had urged the citizens of India to contribute to the fund to help the country in its fight against coronavirus. Ever since then, several Bollywood celebrities — from Akshay Kumar, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Kartik Aaryan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar, Katrina Kaif, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra to Varun Dhawan, Randeep Hooda, Badshah and Shah Rukh Khan have pledged their donations. However, Bollywood’s legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, who has been spreading awareness about COVID-19 through government campaign and social media, however, hasn’t announced any such contribution till now. At least, all the Bollywood celebrities took to social media to pledge their contribution to PM-CARES. But Amitabh has always been supportive of the Centre’s work and its initiative. In fact, for his non-contribution to PM-CARES, he is still facing the wrath of the netizens, who aren’t happy at all with the veteran actor not coming forward in the time of crisis.
However on Sunday, news agency PTI reported that the veteran actor has finally pledged monthly ration to support 1,00,000 households of daily wage workers belonging to the All India Film Employees Confederation. The initiative, however, will be supported by Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers. No, we still don’t know whether he has made his contributions for PM-CARES or Maharashtra chief minister emergency relief fund. Maharashtra, however, has 490 positive cases and 25 deaths.
A statement released by Sony Pictures Networks on Sunday said, “Given the unprecedented nature of the situation we are in, an initiative undertaken by Mr Bachchan, ‘WE ARE ONE’ has been supported by Sony Pictures Networks India and Kalyan Jewellers, through which the monthly ration of 1,00,000 households across the country will be funded.”
“Through a commercial tie-up with a leading chain of hypermarkets and grocery stores in India, digitally barcoded coupons have been distributed to a verified list of workers from the All India Film Employees Confederation. Furthermore, monetary help has also been extended to those in need,” it added.
However, according to PTI report, there is no information till when these daily wage workers will receive monthly ration from the donators.
Generally, Big B is very active on social media. However, he did not give any update on the pledge of monthly ration to support to daily wage workers. On Sunday even, the actor posted a photograph of himself where he is pointing towards the camera. And he captioned it, “Listen and understand this coronavirus. It is looking for a home and its home is the human body. So shut that door! Don’t allow him to come in.” The first part of the post is in Hindi and the second part in English. In Hindi, he has requested everyone not to venture out and stay at home.
