AGENCIES, New Delhi: While Japan debates about Tokyo Olympics in view of coronavirus outbreak, close to home, the forthcoming Shooting World Cup in New Delhi has been postponed according to a National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) source told news agency PTI. The tournament approved by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) was to take place from March 15 to March 26.
However, there’s a good chance that a new date for the event will give the participants some respite. “The tournament in Delhi will now be held in two parts before the Olympic Games. Dates for the events will be announced shortly,” the NRAI source said.
On Feb 28, India pulled out its team from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup (Shotgun) event in Nicosia on March 4-13.
The decision to postpone the rifle event comes after the government imposed several restrictions on the entry of travellers from affected countries such as China, Italy, South Korea, Japan and Iran, in a bid to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
Till now, 22 countries have pulled out of the event due to the coronavirus scare.
Apart from Delhi shooting World Cup, the Olympic Test event in Tokyo, which was scheduled to take place from April 16, has also been cancelled, the report said.
