BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: A complaint has been lodged at Beliaghata police station against singer Roddur Roy for using derogatory words in parody songs of Rabindranath Tagore. A teachers’ forum (Paschim Banga Shikhak Oikko Mukto Mancho) lodged the complaint against Roy on Monday. The members alleged that no complaint was lodged against him even after the shameful incident at Rabindra Bharati University, and so, they had to take the initiative.
Maidul Islam, general-secretary of the organisation, said that Roy had been denigrating Tagore on the social media for the last few months. “We feel that this is an attempt to degrade our culture and traditions. This was having an adverse effect on teenagers. So we decided to lodge the complaint,” he said.
The complaint has been lodged only with the Beliaghata police, but soon such complaints will be lodged in other police stations as well, Islam said. A senior police officer confirmed that they have indeed received a complaint of from teachers.
