BH CORRESPONDENT, New Delhi: A clash erupted between two groups over the issue of Citizenship Ammendment Act (CAA), on Saturday afternoon in Northeast Delhi’s Maujipur. One group took out rally in favour of CAA and another was opposing the act.The venue is a stone’s throw away from Jafrabad metro station, where more than 500 women sat in protest against CAA. The fight broke out after a local BJP leader started a rally in favour of the amended act.
Both groups pelted stones at each other across the road, standing near to the police barricades. The police, who were deployed at the Jafrabad protest site along with para-military personnel, used tear gas shells to disperse the fighting mob. The Police didn’t use force since a large number of anti-CAA protesting women were present there. Some people have suffered minor injuries in the stone pelting.
“We brought the situation under control quickly,” said Alok Kumar, joint commissioner of police (eastern range).
Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) decided to close the entry and exit gates of Maujpur-Babarpur station at around 5 pm on Sunday after the stone pelting incident. The Maujpur – Babarpur Metro Station is located on the Pink Line of the Delhi Metro. Earlier this day, DMRC also blocked the entry and exit gates of Jafrabad metro station due to the ongoing protests since Saturday night.
