BH CORRESPONDENT, Kolkata: This COVID-19 lockdown, you might not have learnt a new language, cooked anything special, did not video chat with anyone and let’s believe you didn’t even bother to venture out to the market even to buy your favourite fish, but we are sure you have watched Money Heist (Spanish title La Casa de Papel) on Netflix. This cat-and-mouse heist drama has gripped the entire world ever since it debuted on Netflix on April 3. Professor, Raquel, Tokyo, Rió, Nairobi, Berlin and the infectious Bella Ciao never left our mind. So, it wasn’t surprising at all when a Bengali moviegoer dropped filmmaker Srijit Mukherji the question on his Twitter timeline that if Money Heist was made in Bengali, who would he cast in those popular and now cult characters?
And mind you, a few days ago Srijit had revealed the casting of his “still now imaginary” Mahabharat and Ramayan. And given, Money Heist is also a multistarrer, high-paced racy thriller, Srijit has indeed come up with some stellar names too. Especially we like his choice of Professor, Nairobi and Raquel.
As Professor, Srijit has returned to his actor-friend, a forever dependable actor, Jisshu Sengupta. For Raquel, he has selected Swastika Mukherjee. Now, we have watched her performance in Shah Jahan Regency and we know what Swastika can do as an actress. Interesting selection of actors for Tokyo and Rio in Srijit’s version of Money Heist. Here, he brings the Gaaner Oparey pair of Mimi Chakraborty and Arjun Chakravorty. Nairobi is one of most fascinating characters in the series and someone as powerful as Paoli Dam can pull her off.
When the series started off, Denver wasn’t looking so captivating, but then he took off. Srijit has thought of Anindya Chattopadhyay for this role. Nusrat Jahan will be seen as hostage Monica Gaztambide, who emerges as a strong woman too. Srijit has Abir Chatterjee in mind for Angel’s character. A fan pointed out to Srijit, he has again given Abir the role of a man, who is rejected in love (remember 22 e Srabon and Dwitiyo Purush). And then comes Berlin, a beguiling character. And he has thought of Anirban Bhattacharya for this role.
